Why University Honors?

The University Honors community is comprised of students from all backgrounds and perspectives, with wide-ranging interests and ambitions, pursuing all majors and careers.

As the largest living-learning program in Maryland’s Honors College, University Honors welcomes approximately 500 first-year students into its community each year. Once they arrive, there is no typical experience: UH provides each student with the flexibility and support needed to develop their own path and to contribute to their community in whatever ways they choose. What binds all UH students is an abiding curiosity; an enthusiasm to explore new ideas coupled with the work ethic required to do so responsibly; a commitment to contributing to the communities of which they are a part; an interest in networking with peers, faculty, and alumni; and a passion for charting a path toward a fulfilling and meaningful life.

First-year UH students join one of our four houses. Each house provides opportunities for students to build relationships with fellow housemates and to engage in friendly competitions with members of the other houses, including the House Cup!

What kind of experience does University Honors offer? How is the program organized? Which students choose to join UH and why? Begin to discover the answers to these and other questions in this brief video:
