Orientation

Welcome to UH!

All first-year students are required to attend a New Student Orientation program, and we strongly recommend registering for one of the three programs devoted to Honors students. Each of these programs will include a session for University Honors students specifically.

The Summer 2023 Honors orientations will take place on June 15-16, June 28- June 29, and July 10-11. To register, and for general information about getting started at UMD, please visit the Orientation Office website.

At UH’s orientation session, incoming students will meet fellow UH students and UH staff members, register for classes, and learn about leadership opportunities in the program. UH will reach out to students in the summer with follow-up information about the Fall. Don’t forget to follow us on Facebook and Instagram; and feel free to contact us with questions.

Checklist for New UH Students

To ensure that newly admitted students are fully prepared to join the UH community in the Fall, we have compiled the following checklist. The checklist is comprised of tasks to complete before orientation (red light); tasks to complete at orientation (yellow light); and tasks to complete after orientation, but before Fall semester (green light). This checklist will be updated periodically throughout the summer, so check back often. But don’t worry: we’ll alert you by email when updates are made!

Checklist #1

Before Orientation
  • Review our FAQs for new students: Joining UH
  • Get ready for class registration:
  • Register for orientation, we recommend attending an Honors Orientation if you are able!
  • Sign up for housing (May 1 is the preferred deadline). You will automatically be placed into the UH community in the Heritage Community, unless you request an exemption. Information about that process can be found in our Joining UH FAQs.

Checklist #2

At Orientation
  • Make sure to attend the UH Orientation session if you are attending an Honors Orientation.
  • Register for the 1 credit Gateway seminar (HNUH100) and consider taking at least one UH cluster course.

If you are not attending an Honors Orientation and want access to orientation materials, contact us at university-honors@umd.edu.
