Students in each house come together annually to compete with other houses for awards and prizes … and, ultimately, for the right to have the name of their house engraved on the House Cup.
The purpose of the House Cup competition is to promote community and belonging amongst UH students. By participating in the life of their house, students begin to build lifelong relationships, develop a sense of self-ownership, expand their support networks, and contribute to an ethos of inclusivity. And by accumulating House Cup points, students deepen their understanding of the various academic, co-curricular, and extracurricular opportunities available to them at the University of Maryland.

The House Cup competition encourages UH students to enhance their whole selves. A student’s physical and mental well-being are just as important as their academic achievements. To help promote this balance, students have the opportunity to gain points for participating in a variety of activities, ranging from attending office hours to joining an intramural team.
In addition to activities detailed in the chart below, students are welcome to submit other activities that they would like to be considered for House Cup points. Events that fall into the purpose and aims of the House Cup program will be awarded points.
Students are responsible for submitting their points for consideration. Students submit the online submission form, which requests details and supporting information about their activity required to verify the event. House points will be updated weekly, and current standings will be advertised on the program’s Instagram account and periodically via email.
