All applicants to the University of Maryland are considered for admission to the Honors College. In coordination with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, invitations to join the Honors College are extended in late January or early February to students who demonstrate exceptional academic ability and promise.
Students who have been invited to join the Honors College are encouraged to learn more about the Honors College and its living-learning programs by reviewing their websites and by attending online chats. Students interested in University Honors are particularly encouraged to review our academic program, co-curricular offerings, and mission and values. Our program warmly welcomes students of all backgrounds pursuing degrees in all academic subjects.
Students who are interested in joining University Honors should indicate this preference on the Honors College preferencing form. Students whose statements of interest indicate a sincere interest in UH are reviewed by program staff. For best consideration, please complete and submit your preferencing form in your Coalition account by February 21, 2022.
Students who are selected to join University Honors are notified in late February or early March. Those who have been selected to join UH must confirm their enrollment to the University of Maryland no later than May 1. By doing so, students thereby assure their place in UH.
While University Honors does not have a residency requirement, many first-year students elect to live in Pyon-Chen-Chen or Johnson-Whittle Halls. In order to secure a place in UH housing, students must apply for housing by May 1. Those who miss this deadline may be unable to secure on-campus housing.
University Honors hosts summer orientation sessions at which students will meet other incoming UH students, register for classes. Later in the summer, students will meet their PAL and learn their house assignment.
