Live in UH

UH Houses

University Honors nurtures community and a sense of belonging through our “houses.” Named after navigational stars, each house provides students a smaller community within the larger program. Like their stellar namesakes, these houses—and particularly the constellation of friends, peers, and mentors that emerges within them—become integral in students’ ability to navigate their way to success within UH and to a meaningful and fulfilling life beyond.

First-year students are invited into their houses during summer orientation and remain in their house for the duration of their time in the program. Prior to Fall semester, each student is introduced to their Peer Academic Leader (PAL), a more senior UH student who offers mentorship and support in advance of the academic year and who will be associated with the section of Gateway Seminar in which the student enrolls in the Fall. First-year students bond with their fellow housemates during Gateway Seminar and throughout the annual House Cup competition.

Led by its Speaker, one of our Collegiate Fellows, and several PALs, each house numbers approximately 125 students. House are further subdivided into even smaller groups of students, each of which corresponds to 1-2 sections of Gateway Seminar. Each of the PALs in a house is associated with a section of Gateway Seminar.
