Stop Asian Hate

Dear University Honors students,

The murders in Atlanta last week of eight individuals, including six women of Asian descent, were a painful reminder of the recent escalation in harassment and attacks perpetrated against this country’s Asian and Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) community. I and the entire leadership team in University Honors grieve the recent loss of life and honor the pain and anxiety long suffered by members of the wider APIDA community.

As I shared with you last year, UH’s “living” and “learning” missions flourish in tandem. Hatred and bigotry are toxic to any community, but especially to one like ours, defined by its embrace of a diversity of perspectives. Such a community cannot thrive when any of its members feel threatened or unsafe.

We stand with and are here to support any among you who may be mourning or feeling fear in the wake of these developments. And, in addition to availing yourselves of the various university resources listed below, we encourage the entire UH community to show its solidarity at some of the upcoming events listed below.

Sincerely,

Stephan Blatti
Director, University Honors
