Yupeng Jiao

Chinese History

Biography

Yupeng Jiao received his Ph.D. in Chinese History from UC San Diego. Before joining University Honors, Yupeng was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Stanford University’s Center for East Asian Studies and Teaching Fellow at New York University Shanghai’s Global Perspectives on Society program. His teaching includes East Asian History, History of Communism, Western Classics, and Religious Studies. Yupeng works at the crossroads of historical anthropology, Chinese political institutions, Chinese religions, and Chinese legal history during the 20th century. He is working on a book manuscript about sectarianism, rural power structures, and regime changes in 20th-century China. Yupeng also writes and publishes on the history of criminal justice, magic and superstition in modern China.
