Biography

Sam Holley-Kline researches the politics of archaeology in Mexico, and teaches courses that draw from anthropology and history. His book manuscript, tentatively titled “In the Shadow of El Tajín: Labor and Landscape in a Mexican Archaeological Site,” explores the recent Indigenous histories silenced during the excavation of the ancient past. Otherwise, he has recently published work on the history and politics of archaeology in the Journal of Social Archaeology, Ethnohistory, and Archaeological Dialogues. Holley-Kline was previously Dean’s Postdoctoral Scholar in Florida State University Department of History. He received his PhD and MA in anthropology from Stanford University, and holds a BA in Spanish and anthropology from DePauw University.
