Biography

Mitchell Pavao-Zuckerman is an Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental Science and Technology at the University of Maryland. He earned his Ph.D. in Ecology from the University of Georgia. His research focuses on the responses of ecosystems to urbanization and land-use change, and his work builds from a co-production approach to formulate research questions that address the needs of stakeholders, managers, and policy makers. He studies the provision of ecosystem services by green infrastructure and urban forests, the resilience of urban systems to climate change, and interdisciplinary approaches to link environmental design, planning, policy, and governance. He has published over 50 peer reviewed research articles and book chapters. He is the recipient of numerous honors and awards, including a UMD Sustainability Teaching Fellow and was invited to the Water Environment Foundation’s Water Leadership Institute, and the Powe Junior Faculty Award from the Oak Ridge Associated Universities program.
