Dr. Ricardo Arévalo, Jr. is an associate professor in the Department of Geology. Arévalo’s scientific research focuses on the analysis of geological materials, establishing compositional models of planetary interiors, and characterizing the biosignature preservation potential of different mineral phases.
To facilitate this research agenda, his lab develops miniaturized instruments that will enable a new generation of planetary missions, including those seeking evidence of alien life and those that prioritize a better understanding of the origin of the Moon. In his free time, he can be found running or cycling, having just finished the Disney Dopey Challenge in January 2022. And if he’s not exercising, you might find him rewatching the Star Trek or Star Wars sagas.
