Shawn J. Parry-Giles holds a PhD in Communication from the University of Indiana and is currently a Professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Maryland. Her research centers on the study of rhetoric and political culture with a focus on the presidency. She teaches classes in political communication, the rhetorical presidency, the history of U. S. political discourse, and political theory and citizenship. She has authored, co-authored, or edited seven books, including: Memories of Lincoln and the Splintering of U.S. Political Thought; Hillary Clinton in the News; The Primetime Presidency: the West Wing and U.S. Nationalism; and The Rhetorical Presidency, Propaganda, and the Cold War. She is also Director of the Rosenker Center for Political Communication and Civic Leadership where she co-edits two digital humanities projects, including the Voices of Democracy Project: the U.S. Oratory Project and the Recovering Democracy Archives: Speech Recovery Project.
