Erica Smith holds a J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law and an LL.M. in Trial Advocacy from Temple University, Beasley School of Law. A member of the District of Columbia Bar and the State Bar of California, Smith has practiced law as an associate in the business trial practice group of Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP in Los Angeles, California, and as a litigation associate at Wilson, Elser, Moskowitz, Edelman & Dicker LLP in Washington, DC. Prior to joining University Honors, Smith was the Associate Director of College Park Scholars Justice and Legal Thought Program. Smith is the recipient of the College Park Scholars “Unsung Hero Award” for her contributions, presence and support of Justice and Legal Thought’s first- and second-year students, as well as the “Create Your Own Award – Appellate Hustler Award.”
In addition to her role as Assistant Clinical Professor in Honors, Smith teaches a summer Mock Trial course for Terp Young Scholars and two Public Policy courses for the School of Public Policy. In the past, Smith taught a Professional Legal Writing course for the English Department and a UNIV100 course for Freshman Connection. A trained facilitator for the Words of Engagement Intergroup Dialogue Program, Smith has co-facilitated Race/Ethnicity Intergroup Dialogue courses and a Size/Appearance Intergroup Dialogue course.
