Dr. Kenneth Frauwirth is a senior lecturer in the Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics department. His interests are in the regulation and activation of T lymphocytes of the immune system. He is particularly interested in how T cells are educated to avoid reacting against oneself and harmless foreign materials. Frauwirth also investigates the interactions between metabolism and classical signaling pathways in regulating T cell function.
He looks forward to making biology fun, exciting, and relevant to students, even those who do not expect to pursue biological or medical careers. Frauwirth teach cell biology and immunology, both of which are upper level courses, and is exciting for the opportunity to have more interaction with students early in their college careers. When he isn’t in the lab, you can find Dr. Frauwirth swing dancing, playing ultimate frisbee, and running around after his two young children.
