Affiliate Fellow: Conserving Biodiversity

Tiara (she/her) is an American Indian educator, activist, and leader dedicated to advocating for the rights and recognition of the Piscataway Conoy Tribe and other Indigenous Nations. She currently serves as Chair of the Maryland Commission on Indian Affairs, promoting the interests of American Indian communities statewide. First appointed in 2020 and reappointed in 2023, she plays a key role in policy advocacy and Indigenous representation. As the Managing Deputy Director at the Accokeek Foundation at Piscataway Park, Tiara leads educational initiatives that highlight the rich history and culture of Southern Maryland’s Indigenous peoples. Through her leadership, scholarship, and activism, Tiara works to ensure Indigenous voices are heard in education, policy, and environmental sustainability.
