Student Leadership Network

In University Honors, we know that we are stronger together. This is seen most clearly with the network of student leaders that serve as the foundation of UH. The University Honors Leadership Network is constantly growing and changing to meet the needs of students, alumni, and the program as a whole.


Speakers of the House

Second-year students who lead their respective houses to help shape the House Cup program; Speakers are also members of the Student Life Council.

Time Commitment

1-4 hours per week (Weekly 1-hour meeting, individual committee work, presence at planned House Cup events)

Role Duration

August through May

Applicants will be reviewed by staff and leaders before receiving an offer.

Student Life Council (SLC)

UH students from all years who work together to plan and host social events and opportunities for the UH community.

Time Commitment

1-4 hours per week (Weekly 1-hour meeting, individual committee work, presence at planned events)

Advising Mentors

Second-year and above UH students who provide individual mentoring and academic assistance to their peers, under the direction of UH’s Academic Advisor.

Time Commitment

Varies, but a minimum of 1 hour per week of personal “office hours”

Role Duration

January through December

Application & Selection Process

Recruitment takes place during the fall semester. Duties begin in the spring and continue through the end of the following fall semester.
Interested students should contact Mr. Dario Middleton to schedule a meeting to learn more about becoming an Advising Mentor.

Peer Academic Leaders (PALs)

Upper-class mentors for first-year students, PALs work alongside HNUH100 professors to provide a close-knit community within their Houses and a thorough introduction to college life.

Time Commitment

1-4 hours per week, with the time commitment weighted more heavily in the Fall semester

Role Duration

June through May

Applications for PALs are currently closed.
Applicants will interview with members of the UH Staff before receiving an offer.

UH Student Board (UHSB)

A group of UH students from all years who work to build traditions and advise program leadership on major decisions and initiatives from a student perspective.

Time Commitment

Weekly meetings and representation at UHSB and UH events and initiatives

Role Duration

August through May

Applications for UHSB positions are currently closed but will open in early Fall.
All UH students are eligible to apply.
Applicants will interview with the current UHSB team before receiving an offer.
