Required Courses (3 credits)

Taken by all first-semester UH students, this orientation and exploration course helps you find support networks, make connections, and learn to care for your whole self while on your new academic journey.

Taken by all UH students in their fourth or fifth semester, this experiential goal-setting and project-design course helps you to reflect on your time in UH. Students can submit their final projects from this course for seed funding through the UH Student Fellowship and/or the Vantage Point Realization Award.

Elective Course Pairings (12 credits)

You will complete two pairs of HNUH2xx courses of your choosing. You can either complete two Thematic Clusters, two Theory & Practice Tracks, or one Thematic Cluster and one Theory & Practice Track.

This pair of courses consists of a Big Question course (that also satisfies one of your general education requirements) and your choice of an accompanying HNUH2xx course. These courses are only offered for two years at a time, with four new clusters beginning each academic year, and can be taken in any order. You can see the full list of current Thematic Cluster options here.

This pair of courses includes a Theory course (offered every fall) and an experiential Practice course (offered every spring). These courses do not have an expiration date and are offered annually. You can see the full list of Theory & Practice Track options here.

My major, Environmental Science & Policy, is inherently interdisciplinary. UH’s coursework compliments this style of thinking and practice, and has helped me on my journey toward bridging the gap between science and policy with global efforts to combat climate change. Gabriel Santiago Class of 2027 I love the versatility of the UH courses and the fact that I can explore topics completely unrelated to my major. I’ve taken courses ranging from social science to agriculture to incarceration and all of them have expanded my knowledge and made me a more well-rounded student and person. Laila Wilson Class of 2026 As someone who didnโ€™t really know what she wanted to do coming into college, having an interdisciplinary program was really important to me. So far Iโ€™ve taken a class on the sustainability of agriculture, one on loneliness as a social phenomenon, another on the ecology of childhood poverty, and then one on evolutionโ€“ which is crazy, Iโ€™ve never enjoyed a bio class before until now. Megan Cha Class of 2026 My time at UH was incredibly transformative. I came into college with only a vague idea of what I wanted to do, however the curated set of classes that UH provided really helped me unlock my passions. Kenneth Klepsig Class of 2027 Laila Wilson sits atop the edge of a stone formation with her legs over the ledge and arms out wide. A deep canyon in the background and bright blue skies.
