Peter has taught for more than a decade in the English department, often in the writing programs, where he is an inveterate designer of courses on fantasy and food. As the founder and program leader of Tolkien in Oxford (ENGL398G) and Food Writing in Italy (ENGL398T), he has led hundreds of students on adventures abroad. His research centers legend, myth, and medievalism. His first book, A Sense of Tales Untold (Kent State University Press), was named a Mythopoeic Award finalist; his critical edition of Tolkien’s The Battle of Maldon (HarperCollins) was dubbed “peak Tolkien” and has been translated four times. He studied at Maryland with the influential scholar and teacher, Dr. Verlyn Flieger.
