Christine Jones is the Assistant Director for Academic Affairs and Affiliate Professor of French and Italian. Jones oversees the planning, management, and assessment of academic programming for University Honors. Before coming to Maryland, Jones was Professor of French at the University of Utah. Over a 20-year career, she taught in French Studies, Comparative Literary and Cultural Studies, and Honors, and was awarded the University Distinguished Teaching Award in 2014. Her fields of research straddle the 17th and 18th centuries. Jones is a specialist of the French fairy tale and has co-edited two anthologies of world tales. Her other interests include material culture and translation. She has a monograph on the artisanal strategies and innovations that created the porcelain industry in France, and published the first gloss translation of Charles Perrault’s Mother Goose fairy tales, the only formal translation by a woman in the tales’ 300-year history. Jones holds a BA in Philosophy and Honors from Villanova University, an MA and PhD in French Literature from Princeton University, and will soon be certified in permaculture.
