HONR 359A Writing Workshop
Tuesday/Thursday, 2:00-3:15 p.m.
Dr. Sibbie O’Sullivan, Lecturer in University Honors
The University Honors writing workshop is designed especially for the needs of Honors students. It provides an opportunity for you to work on aspects of your writing that you would like to further develop and refine, but also–and as importantly–it will give you a chance to explore forms of writing you have not tried before. The workshop emphasizes a heightened attention to the power of language and a collaborative working environment by dividing your writing in a peer workshop structure. You will learn techniques for getting started on writing projects, for revising, and editing. You will receive feedback on the development of style and content from student response groups as well as from the instructor. This workshop is ungraded (offered on the S/F basis) in order to encourage exploration of language and forms of writing beyond your present experience in an environment free of GPA anxieties. The workshop is also devoted to the idea that writing can be an exciting, moving, and pleasurable activity even as it takes you to the outer reaches of your abilities. This class is appropriate for all Honors students from first year to senior level.
